There are beach houses and then there are beach houses. On the Outer Cape, they often sit high above rugged dunes, almost standing sentinel against the power of the waves below. You can find them all along the Outer Cape from Eastham to Provincetown. These facing Cape Cod Bay in Truro especially caught my painter's eye because of a classic Cape Cod occurrence that was taking place: high, almost wispy clouds of fog beginning to roll in behind them from the Atlantic Ocean on the other side of this narrow peninsula. Within the hour, the sun was gone and the houses nearly invisible; within yet another hour, it may well have been sunny once again.
